Do you like Pizza? The WCYC-LP Sports Staff does!
While traveling to Red Raiders away games we sample & review local pizzerias!
We've listed them top to bottom according to our taste scale which includes such things as
how good the pizza is cold after it's been sitting in a car for three hours!
|
Grove City - Zamarelli's Pizza Palace: Wednesday 2/25/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
In a word outstanding! The crust was perfectly done & crispy! The sauce was great & the dash of oregano sprinkled on the pie enhanced the flavor!
Just the right amount of meat, and great staying power added to this delicious pizza! Our only nitpick was it could have used just a little more cheese, so next time we
are ordering extra!
Rating 9.5 out of 10 - SETTING THE BAR AWARD! |
Wilmington - Generations Pizzaria: Friday 9/30/11 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
This was a great tasting pizza! Lots of cheese, lots of spicy pepperoni, and an amazing amount of sauce! The crust was thin with a light airy taste around the edge,
but thicker in the middle. The high amount of sauce really helped the cold staying power as it added a lot to the flavor. Definitely one of our better experiences!
Rating 9 out of 10. |
Jeffersonville - Don & Marty's Pizza: Friday 10/07/11 - Thin Crust with
Pepperoni/Sausage This pizza was one of the most unique we've had to date. The toppings are actually placed on the sauce and UNDER a very generous amount of cheese,
which really gave it a different flavor. A thin and crispy crust also was a positive. The cold staying power didn't compare to the out of the oven taste, but it was still
pretty decent. This is one to return to for sure!
Rating 8.5 out of 10. |
West Jefferson - Bambino's Pizza: Friday 9/10/10 - Thin Crust with
Pepperoni/Sausage The light & airy crust was crispy on the bottom and crunchy along the edges! Wall to wall meat, and lots of cheese too!
A little more sauce would have been OK, but the flavor of the sauce was very good! The staying power grade was above average on this one!
Rating 8.5 out of 10. |
Midway - Sedalia Pizza: Tuesday 1/15/10 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni The crust was very good, and this pizza was smothered in pepperonis and a ton of cheese!
There could have been a little more sauce, but the taste was fantastic! In the staying power category this pie surpassed anything we've reviewed to date!
Rating 8.5 out of 10 - BEST COLD SO FAR AWARD! |
Plain City - Jan & Tony's Pizza: Friday 9/24/10 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was very nice - golden brown on the bottom & very crispy along the edges! Another plus was the generous amount of pepperoni
and cheese! The sauce had a good flavor & there was enough of it to taste, but not so much that the crust got soggy in the middle. Also, a light sprinkle of oregano kicked the flavor up a notch!
Sampled cold this pizza was still firm & tasty!
Rating 8 out of 10. |
Lockbourne - Lombardi's Pizza: Friday 9/4/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni The crust was just right, and this pizza was smothered in pepperonis and cheese!
There could have been just a tad more sauce, but the overall flavor was very good! In the staying power category this pizza held up well!
Rating 8 out of 10. |
Mt. Sterling - Larry's Pizza & Wings: Friday 10/24/08 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was a bit flaky and slightly overdone, but the pie was completely smothered in pepperonis! There could have been just a little more cheese & sauce, but the
generous meat made up for that!
Rating 8 out of 10. |
Grove City - Tristano's Pizza House: Saturday 2/28/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
Crispy crust around the edges, but a bit soggy in the middle. Lots of tasty meat & cheese, but could have used just a little more sauce. Probably would have rated an 8
with a cold pizza bonus.
Rating 7.5 out of 10. |
Springfield - The Barn: Friday 1/9/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni/Sausage
The crust was just right, the sauce had a great flavor, and the toppings were wall to wall! The only draw back was the staying power.
The pie once cold didn't hold up to it's fresh out of the oven taste, so we advise you to eat this one hot!
Rating 7.5 out of 10. |
Washington Court House - Giovanni's Pizza: Friday 10/23/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni The crust was unusual in that it was very light & airy. Excellent sauce, and plenty of cheese were also positives.
There was a decent amount of meat, but not as much as we would have liked. This one would have been an 8 until we sampled it cold. In a word the the crust
had turned chewy, and that really hurt the staying power factor.
Rating 7 out of 10. |
Obetz - Jo Jo's Pizza: Friday 9/2/11 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni This pizza went edge to edge with the toppings. Pepperoni and sauce and was tasty, but the cheese was fairly thin. The crust was a little thicker than what we like, but was still pretty good, so it wasn't a problem. The cold staying power was better than average so that also went in the pizza's favor!
Rating 6.5 out of 10. |
Urbana - Sparky's Pizza: Friday 8/28/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni The crust was crispy on the bottom, but a tad doughy in the center. The sauce had good flavor, but there wasn't enough of it for our taste. However, the pie had a good amount of meat and lots of cheese! The cold pizza test
came back just so so knocking the score on this one down a notch.
Rating 6.5 out of 10. |
Bloomingburg - Starlight Pizza & Subs: Friday 10/9/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was golden brown on the bottom & had good flavor! This pizza had a generous portion of meat, and tons of cheese!
However, there wasn't nearly enough sauce for our taste, and what sauce there was didn't have much flavor. The cold pizza staying power was a little below average.
Rating 6 out of 10. |
Hillsboro - Stephano's Pizza: Friday 10/15/10 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was nice & crispy along the edges and well done on the bottom, but it had a floury flavor as if the dough batter hadn't been mixed throughly.
There was a ton of yummy cheese, but hardly any sauce at all. A fair amount of pepperoni slices were applied, but nothing overwhelming. Cold it was just so so.
Rating 5.5 out of 10. |
Greenfield - Scott's Pizza: Friday 9/17/10 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was crispy around the edges, but a little soft in the middle. The sauce had a decent flavor, but was a bit on the pastey side. The pie did have a nice thick layer of cheese, but the pepperonis were applied very sparingly. Cold this pizza lost most of it's taste.
Rating 5.5 out of 10. |
Washington Court House - Center Pizza: Friday 10/21/11 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
This pizza left a little to be desired...LITERALLY. The crust was thin, but so was the amount of pepperoni, sauce, and cheese. Due to the oregano, the first few pieces were
tasty, buy seemed to lose taste as we continued. The crust also developed a lot of air pockets, probably due to the lack of toppings on top of the crust while baking.
The cold staying power was just average. On a side note, this place gets the "Service With A Frown" award!
Rating 5 out of 10 - SERVICE WITH A FROWN AWARD! |
Urbana - Jac-N-Do's: Friday 8/26/11 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
Lots of gooey cheese and pepperoni made the pizza look great! However, although the crust was thin it was pretty doughy, and the overall taste just lacked much flavor.
In the cold staying power department it is one of the worst we have tried. Let's just say cardboard, which dropped the overall score.
Rating 5 out of 10. |
Mt. Sterling - Freeway Sub Station: Friday 1/23/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni
The crust was a tad under cooked. The sauce had a good flavor & the cheese was excellent, but the small number of pepperonis hurt the overall score making this an average pizza.
Rating 5 out of 10. |
Clarksville - Pizza Palace: Friday 10/2/09 - Thin Crust with Pepperoni The crust was nice and cripsy, and the pizza was loaded with cheese! Unfortunately the sauce had a vinegar twang that we didn't care for, and you could count the pepperonis on your fingers.
The cold pizza staying power wasn't bad, but the flavor of the sauce brought this one down.
Rating 3 out of 10. |
Hillsboro - Pasquales Pizza: Friday 10/10/08 - Regular Crust with Pepperoni/Green Olives Fair Sauce with plenty of cheese, however the pepperonis were few & far between, and the crust was undercooked & doughy. Cold it wasn't any better.
Rating 2.5 out of 10. |
